Greater Pee Dee Region receives grant for Sector Strategy work!

The Greater Pee Dee Region, comprised of the Pee Dee, Santee Lynches, and Waccamaw Local Workforce Development Areas has been awarded a grant totaling $407,471 to launch a new diversified manufacturing sector partnership.

Sector partnerships are partnerships of business leaders, from the same industry and in a shared labor market region, who work with education, workforce development, economic development, and community organizations to address the workforce and other competitiveness needs of their industry. The National Skills Coalition touts them as a proven strategy for helping workers prepare for middle- skill jobs and helping employers find skilled workers.

The sector partnership grant was awarded by the State Workforce Development Board in response to a Notice of Funding Availability released in Spring 2023 and has a two-year performance period ending in 2025. The award of this grant is timely, as some of its activities will align with the Pee Dee Workforce Development Board's strategic priorities as determined at its retreat in April.

Soon we will be recruiting local manufacturers to champion the efforts in the Pee Dee. We look forward to the progress of a sector strategy partnership. For more information, contact Bridgette Coates at b-coates@peedeecog.org.
